One of the most important monasteries of Mount Athos, dating around the second half of the 10th century and it was created by three monks, Athanasius, Nicholas and Antonius. The monastic buildings are arranged in a triangular shape. The main church, a bank and some chapels are in the central courtyard.
The most important relics of the monastery are the miraculous icon of the Virgin of Antifonitrias,of Mary of “Esfagmenis”, of Mary of “ Ktitorissas”, the belt OF Mary and pieces of the Holy Cross. Also, it has very impressive murals and a library with a rich collection of manuscripts and printed texts.
